Electrolux Design Lab Finalists

Welcome back!

Electrolux recently announced the finalists in their annual Design Lab contest, highlighting the top nine design concepts from industrial design students tasked with creating innovative, daring ideas and solutions for home appliances. Here is my personal ranking for the best and most promising concept:

9. Scan Toaster

Scan Toaster

Scan Toaster prints articles and images on a piece of toast. I have no idea why you would want to do this. Perhaps an area where this product can be promising is if advertisers can buy “space” on the toast at Denny’s or IHOP?

8. Coox

Coox

Multi-functional and space saving designs were prominent in this year’s competition. The Coox is one of them, a transformable cooking table that also becomes dinner table, coffee table or desk. The one bad thing I foresee is what if your working on this desk and accident turn on the stove? Bad accident waiting to happen.

7. Ebag

Ebag

The Ebag is basically a portable cooler for your drink. The cooling system gets its power from being swung back and forth as its owner walks. The look could use some work though as it looks like a purse. This product has good potential as alot of people are walking these days to save gas.

6. Drawer Kitchen

Drawer Kitchen

Another space saving device. The Kitchen Drawer Kitchen combines an eating surface, fridge, hot plate and dish drawer. As urban areas continue to grow and space becomes a real issue, this product can be common in apartments in condo.

5. Flatshare Fridge

Flatshare Fridge

If you ever had roommates you probably had some conflicts on someone taking your food in the fridge. The Flatshare Fridge solves that problem by allowing each individual user to have his or her own refrigerator space with separate doors. This product can succeed especially well in college dorms or workplaces.

4. Vesta Cooktop
Vesta Cooktop

The Vesta Cooktop is another space saving kitchen device that can be folded and stored away. As the designer pointed out “It also contains a scanner that can read RFID chips, which are predicted to replace barcodes on product packages. These chips could contain information about cooking times and temperatures and even recipe suggestions. So, Vesta saves space, time and provides more comfort for the Internet generation.”

3. Stratosphere

Stratosphere

This is a product I would personally buy. I never bother to fold or hang my clothes after I’ve worn them. they are usually tossed on the chair or bed. Now I can toss it on the Stratosphere and have it deodorized and disinfected. This product could be huge if most people are like me.

2. Sook

Sook

Sook a wireless kitchen assistant concept generates, displays and shares recipes, bringing social networking into the kitchen. Lets be honest bringing a laptop computer with wireless internet can probably do the same job but here is what makes Sook different. Simply put, Sook can detect nearby food and create pleasing meals! Now anybody can be a Top Chef in the kitchen.

1. iBasket

ibasket

The best and most promising concept goes to the iBasket. The iBasket stores dirty clothes and automatically washes them when it fills up. No more finding change for the laundry mat or hauling clothes to the machine.

If you think the iBasket is a great or bad idea vote here
